Everest Base Camp Trek (Day 8 - Lobuche to Base Camp)

Day 8 - WE MADE IT TO BASE CAMP

To say it was just in the nick of time is not an exaggeration. Both teenagers were struggling with digestive issues and I don’t think they could’ve made it another day pushing like we did today (more on that drama later).

But. We. Made. It. 17,580ft

Even though Base Camp is empty at this time of year (its wayyyyy to cold to try to summit Everest right now—that generally occurs in May/June) it was a fantastic experience to accomplish such a difficult task we set before ourselves.

No matter how many times we wanted to quit, we didn’t. The place itself may have not been much to look at, but the accomplishment—particularly doing it with my oldest daughter—made every single minute of the pain, cold, and struggle worthwhile.

The old sign got destroyed but someone made a new one in Gorak Shep, about 1.5 hours trek from Base Camp, and the closest village to eat or sleep at this time of year.

The one she’s pointing to is Everest — there's so many large (and closer) mountains that Everest has been impossible to see most days.

WE MADE IT! - Everest Base Camp - 5360m, 17580ft (and special thanks to the people who left the medal sign so everyone else could use)

I can't believe she had enough energy to do this!
